GST Calculator India 2026 — New Slabs, How to Calculate, Examples

Goods and Services Tax (GST) has revolutionized the Indian tax landscape, but for many small business owners and freelancers, the math can still be confusing. In 2026, some new classifications make it even more important to use the right formulas.

Current GST Slabs (2026 Summary)

  • 0% (Exempt): Unpacked food grains, fresh vegetables, healthcare.
  • 5%: Sugar, spices, tea, life-saving drugs.
  • 12%: Business class air travel, processed food.
  • 18% (Standard): Most services, banking, insurance, and software.
  • 28%: Sin goods (tobacco), luxury cars, high-end electronics.

How to Calculate GST Manually

Adding GST (Exclusive)

If you have a base price of ₹1,000 and want to add 18% GST:

  • 1000 * (18 / 100) = 180
  • Total = 1000 + 180 = 1180

Removing GST (Inclusive)

If you paid ₹1,180 and want to find the pre-tax price:

  • 1180 - (1180 * (100 / (100 + 18)))
  • 1180 - (1180 * 0.8474) = 180 (GST portion)
  • Base Price = 1000

Why CGST and SGST?
