Image Resolution vs. File Size: What Exam Portals Want

2026-04-02Utilifyx Team

Most Indian candidates mistakenly think higher resolution is always better.

The Problem with High Resolution

A 4K resolution image can be 10MB+. When you force this into a 20KB bucket through heavy compression, the software throws away so much data that the image becomes "garbled" or pixelated.

The Solution: Optimization

  1. Lower the Resolution First: For a 3.5cm x 4.5cm photo, 300 DPI (approx 400x500 pixels) is more than enough.
  2. Apply Minor Compression: Since the resolution is already correct, the compression required to hit 20KB is minimal, leaving the face sharp and clean.
